Juliette Parent (Saint-Jacques, QC) secured victories in the men’s and women’s open division finals at the Winter National Team Selection Event, held November 21 & 22, 2025 at Nautilus Plus in Brossard, QC.
Men’s Open Division
In the men’s final on Saturday, Murray faced Coby Iwaasa (Lethbridge, AB) in a very competitive match. Iwaasa claimed the opening game, but Murray responded with three consecutive wins, with final scores of 13-16, 11-7, 11-9. As Canada’s top-ranked male athlete, Murray showcased exactly why he holds that position, delivering a powerful and consistent performance all weekend.
The men’s bronze medal match featured Trevor Webb (Kitchener, ON) against Lee Connell (Saskatoon, SK). Webb took control early, winning the first game 11–5, but Connell battled back to claim a hard-fought second game 14–12. Webb regained momentum and closed out the match in four games, taking the final two 11–5, 11–8.
Women’s Open Division
In a exciting women’s final, Parent faced reigning national champion Frédérique Lambert (Montréal, QC) in a match that went all the way to a tie-breaker. Parent came out strong, winning the first two games 11–8, 11–8, but Lambert fought back, taking the next two 11–8, 11–7 to force the decisive game. Parent held on to claim the tie-breaker 11–6, earning a significant victory over Lambert, who has remained unbeaten at the national level for several years.
The bronze medal match went to Michèle Morissette (Baie-Comeau), whose years of national team experience were evident in her performance against fellow Québec athlete Chloé Jauvin (Terrebonne). Morissette secured the win in three straight games, with scores of 11–8, 11–7, 11–8.
National Team Implications
This was the first selection event of the 2025 – 2026 season, with high-performance athletes competing for national and international team placements for the 2026 Pan American Championships and World Championships.
