WINNIPEG (November 28, 2024) – Play begins tomorrow at the National Team Selection Event and the Brandon Classic being held at the Brandon Community Sportsplex. The tournament, which is being hosted by the Brandon Racquetball Association runs November 29 to December 1.
This is the first selection event of the 2024 / 2025 season for high performance athletes from across Canada who are competing for national and international team placement. The Brandon Classic, which runs in conjunction with the selection event offers divisions for junior age athletes.
Selection event matches will be live-streamed on Racquetball Canada’s Facebook Page and YouTube Channel beginning Friday afternoon. Racquetball Canada welcomes former elite national team member Paul Shanks and former junior national team member Mckenzie Brayley to our livestream team for the season. We are excited to be able to bring you the weekend’s matches thanks to Paul and Mckenzie.

What:
- Fall National Team Selection Event
Who:
- 54 competitors from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Québec; including those playing at the elite level, as well as junior age players.
- Most of Canada’s national team and top ranked athletes will be competing, including the 2024 Men’s Doubles World Champions, Coby Iwaasa and Samuel Murray as well as Frédérique Lambert, Canada’s reigning Women’s Open National Champion in singles and doubles.
- Also competing are local Brandon athletes Kurtis Cullen, Leyton Gouldie and Kaitlyn Couckuyt, all members of Racquetball Canada’s national teams. Cullen recently competed for Canada at the 2024 World Championships and was a member of the team that won silver in the Men’s Team Competition at that event. Gouldie and Couckuyt are set to compete at the World Junior Racquetball Championships coming up in December.
- The tournament is open to spectators free of charge

- November 29 to December 1, 2024
- Play begins at 11:00 am (Central) on Friday November 29. The open division finals will take place in the afternoon of November 30 and junior divisions continue play until the early afternoon on December 1.
